Corrosion Protection
and Pipeline Recoating

using airless hot-spray technology with two-component polyurethane coating materials

 Application

  • buried line pipes, valves, and fittings

  • piping systems in gas compressor stations
    and industrial plants

  • storage tanks, submerged structures
    and industrial buildings

Coating Properties Na začátek této stránky

  • extremely high chemical, impact, and abrasion resistance

  • excellent adhesion to difficult surfaces

  • high temperature resistance and electrical insulation capacity

  • extremely short curing time

General Procedure Na začátek této stránky

  • removal of old coating materials

  • abrasive blasting to near-white surface, grade Sa 2.5,
    pattern profile of 50—100 µm

  • coating application using an airless hot-spray system

  • dry coating thickness check and electrical surface
    testing—15 kV/1 mm layer thickness

Coating Materials Na začátek této stránky

  • two-component solvent-free polyurethane materials
    for external application

  • material PROTEGOL meets DIN 30671, 1989

  • material DURATHANE meets British Gas
    Specification PS/CW6, 1990

  • coating thickness of 0.8—1.5 mm in a single working
    operation is recommended

  • touch-dry curing time of 10—90 minutes
    and stackable curing time of 8—16 hours at 68 °F;
the time depends on the type of material

Coating Application Equipment Na začátek této stránky

  • the coating equipment consists of two parts: an airless hot-spray unit installed in a mobile skid and a line-travel coating machine driven by a variable speed travel motor

  • the line-travel coating machine designed for pipelines OD 20—56" guarantees high quality and uniform thickness of the pipelines coating

  • the line-travel coating machine can be substituted by a hand-operated gun which is suitable for difficult surfaces or small repairs

  • the coating equipment enables production rates up to 2000 m2 per day with an average coating thickness of 1.5 mm

Field Experience

  • the airless hot-spray systems with PROTEGOL are utilized by US companies for total rehabilitation of long-distance,
    large-diameter pipelines

  • PROTEGOL is used as coating material for new and old pipelines, fittings, valves, storage tanks, and structures in Western Europe and Russia—DURATHANE  is used by British Gas for the same purpose
